ADDRESS DELIVERED BY SHRI M.K. NARAYAN GOVERNOR OF WEST BENGAL ON THE BUDGET SESSION OF STATE ASSEMBLY ON 09/3/2010

The Budget Session of the West Bengal Legislative Assembly started from 09.03.2010, Shri M.K. Narayan, Governor of West Bengal welcomed all the legislators of the House at the Ninth Session of the fourteenth Legislative Assembly of the State of West Bengal.

At the outset, he expressed his deep sorrow at the passing away of the former Chief Minister of the West Bengal, Shri Jyoti Basu. He termed Shri Jyoti Basu as an outstanding national leader, with his longest service for the state as Chief Minister. He also expressed his deep sorrow at the passing away of former State Minister, Shri Subash Chakraborty, Shri Mrinal Banerjee, Ex-Minister Smt. Chhaya Ghosh, Shri Ram Narayan Goswami and Shri Atish Chandra Sinha and many other personalities who represented different fields of the society.

In his valedictory address he touched the security environment of the state, which is getting more and more difficult during the past year, caused by the left wing extremists, separatist movement and inter-party clashes, he stressed the need for revamping the security arrangement in a befitting manner to meet the security challenge.

In the course of his speech he outlined the pro-active policies of his Government in the field of Industrialisation, Information Technology, Land Reforms, Agriculture, Animal Resources, Irrigation, Fisheries, Urban & Gram Panchayat Development, Education, P.H.E, Forests, Labour, Electricity, Food Supplies, Welfare for the Backward Classes people of the state.
