Beautification of Subhas Sarobar and Hazarduari Utsav

Phase wise beautification of Subhas Sarobar would be started soon by the West Bengal Tourism Development Corporation in collaboration with Kolkata Improvement Trust. The Central Government has sanctioned Rs. 490 lakhs initially for this project, to be initiated by the State Tourism Department. The project area has been divided into six zones. But at present work for three zones would be started only as Metro Railway project would begin in the rest of three zones. Shri Manabendra Mukherjee, MIC, Tourism and Micro and Small Scale Enterprises and Textiles while addressing a Press Conference at Writers' Buildings today (02.03.10) informed that the beautification project of Subhas Sarobar Lake at the initial stage would consists of Landscape Gardens, Food Park, Anglers Decks, Parking Area, Joggers Track, Entrance Plaza, Space Frame, civic Amenities, Water Sports Complex, Open Air Amphitheatre, Childrens' Park, Rockery, Club cum Cafeteria etc.

The laying of foundation stone of the project will be held on 4th March, 2010. Shri Asok Bhattacharya, MIC, Municipal Affairs and urban Development, Shri Manabendra Mukherjee, MIC, Tourism, MSSE and Textile, Shri Bikash Ranjan Bhattacharya, Mayor of Kolkata and local MLA Smt. Rupa Bagchi will be present in the inaugural function, the Tourism minister informed.

Shri Manabendra Mukherjee, MIC, Tourism further added that the West Bengal Tourism Development would host Hazarduari Utsav from 8th to 10th March, 2010 at Murshidabad. This festival would be organised by the department of Tourism in collaboration with West Bengal Minorities Development and Finance Corporation, Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage, State Bank of India, Eastern Zonal Cultural Centre and banglanatok.com, a NGO. The cultural performance by the artists belonging to Sufi cult is the main attraction of the 'Utsav'. The three day-long festival would include songs by local artists of baul fakir, murshidi and marafati genre. A troupe will perform Kabir songs and a group from Lucknow will perform Kawali Songs. A Sufi-Kathak dance is also on the slate for the festival. The performances will held in an open air stage in front of the Hazarduari.
